Self-Reliant partners with Sethu in Goa India, to help over 2,000 children with developmental concerns.
Bethesda MD, March 25, 2020 –Self-Reliant announced today it would partner with Sethu in India to help children with developmental delays.
The new partnership will help children with challenges to receive family-focused transdisciplinary support over a 3-year period and empower their families to enhance their progress, foster their strengths and enable them to achieve their potential.
“We are delighted to be announcing this partnership with Sethu as it contributes to our goal at Self-Reliant of helping children with developmental delay in developing countries become independent adults,” said T. K. Mukherjee, Self-Reliant’s Board Member.
Based on best practice guidelines by the World Health Organization, Self-Reliant is contributing to Sethu’s efforts to change its delivery framework to incorporate Family-Centered Care (FCC). This will ensure that healthcare is planned around the whole family, in which all members are recognized as partners and active decision-makers. Support services are most beneficial when they are delivered through the ‘family-centered’ approach, giving precedence to parent-identified needs such as responding effectively to behavior and developmental concerns, building self-help skills and accessing local resources, with the overall aim of enhancing family functioning. At the core of FCC are the principles of trust and equal partnership between the healthcare provider and the family. Progress will be monitored every six months using key indicators including surveys.
